Vintage Plus Size Fashion Takes on New York Fashion Week!
It’s always been my dream to attend New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and this year, I attended the event for the first time ever. For year and years, I’ve enjoyed following the festivities from Kentucky and also following those who I admire and attend often. It’s no coincidence that in moving to Washington, D.C., attending fashion week moved up to the top of my priority list (especially, in thinking about more opportunities for More Than Your Average). This year, I turned my dream into action! I not only attended The Curvycon along with other festivities happening in between, but styled a few of my favorite D.C. bloggers (mentioned below) to represent my brand during the best weekend of my life.
In getting ready for this year’s event, I’ll kick things off by saying that I had no clue what I was doing in preparing. I knew my goals for attending included: networking with amazing people I’ve followed for years and who inspire me, building awareness around MTYA, styling some of my favorite D.C. bloggers Kristus Ratliff, Casey McCarthy, and Alison Zupancic for their time in New York, bringing sustainable fashion to the forefront by showcasing my own vintage selections, and having fun while being capture by my favorite D.C. photographer Maddie Stanley.
Words cannot describe my time in New York at The CuryCon. It was so amazing to celebrate body positivity, confidence, fashion, style, inclusivity, and fitness amongst a building filled with women who support each other and who are driven by a similar mission. Over the course of my three days at The CurvyCon, each day I celebrated connecting, building self-confidence, passion, and determination amongst women I just met or who I’ve followed since the beginning of establishing MTYA. To put the icing on the cake, many recognized my brand and have also been following me along my journey from day one (which makes my shed a tear – ok, maybe two!). During the event, I learned new things through panel discussions highlighting what’s taking place currently, took advantage of the downtime to get to know current and/or new brands on the horizon, and enjoyed spending girl time with my sister, Aja Price.
In addition to living it up at The Curvycon, I also hugged, laughed with, and saw some of my favorite D.C. girls in MTYA (mentioned above). From the bold dress to those pair of statement earrings, I ravished in joy seeing MTYA make a presence during fashion week of which any designer, photographer, other brand, or person could have asked, “Where did you get that dress?” or “Where did you get those earrings?”. To even think of my brand receiving the amount of attention it did over the three days, makes my heart smile. From now being highlighted in Paper Magazine to Instyle, this will not be the last time you see MTYA take center stage during fashion week. On top of that, this will not be the last time you see vintage fashion making a statement during New York Fashion Week. More Than Your Average is here to make a bold appearance and looks forward to attending more fashion weeks to come. In case you didn’t know, vintage fashion is here to stay and to make its mark on the ever evolving world of fashion!
