'More is more and less is bore!’: Channeling my Inner Iris Apfel

Name a person who doesn’t love Iris Apfel? For years, I’ve reminisced over the moment of capturing the essence of Iris. From her all time favorite statement: ‘More is more and less us bore!’ to her unapologetic sense of style, Iris is one of my favorite fashion icons to date. This Halloween, I celebrate to channeling my own inner Iris Apfel.

In recreating her iconic look, I’ve pulled out some of my favorite MTYA vintage accessories. We all know how Iris enjoys wearing plenty of bangles, statement earrings, bold rings, and oversized necklaces. As you will see in the photos, I’m wearing a lot of bangles and necklaces, in addition to my personal favorite retro faux fur rainbow scarf, oversized lenses, and one of my favorite turtlenecks (I’ve also taken note that Iris enjoys wearing turtlenecks as well). To top my look off, I’ve paired oversized gold plated vintage earrings with a dash of red lipstick. That’s when my inner Iris comes alive!

The location of the shoot took place in the comforts of my home, in which Maddie (my longtime photographer since moving to D.C. two years ago) and I had a blast capturing. Maddie helped me ‘layer up’, as we laughed and danced with excitement (we always have a good time during our shoots). Once the photos were captured, I knew we ‘nailed it!’ with Iris’ signature pose, accessories, and overall presence.

This Halloween isn’t about just ‘dressing up’ as Iris, but paying homage to an icon who continues to make her mark on the fashion industry. She is bold, she is powerful, she is unique, she is Iris!

She will forever be my fashion icon and inspiration!
